It has been six weeks since my back surgery and my quality of life is now incredible.  I had been in constant pain for over ten years with no solution in Canada. My BajaMed experience is best described in three stages. Preop: I flew into San Diego on Monday, was met at the airport by my driver, and taken straight to the hotel in Tijuana. All told, about an hour, which flew by as the conversation with my driver was interesting, informative and funny. Shortly after arriving at the hotel, a tech appeared to draw blood samples, and shortly after that an ekg was performed. Then it was off to dinner. Dr. Serrano, the clinic director, also dropped by to discuss what to expect the following day, and to answer any questions or concerns I might have had.The day had gone so smoothly. Surgery: I was picked up at 7:45 and taken to the hospital, where I got checked in, vital signs taken, and then prepped for surgery. Again Dr. Serrano came by and chatted with me about anything really, he was in no hurry, and was just being very reassuring about the upcoming procedure. Eventually I was taken to the surgical suite, where I met the team, who were all relaxed and friendly. In the background the Beatles were playing, which to me set the whole tone of the day. I couldn’t have been more relaxed! Surgery of course went well, when I was finally lucid enough Dr. Serrano came by to describe what was done, and what to expect in the coming days. Post Op: first night in the hospital was busy, as nurses came in every two hours to take vital signs, ensure the iv was doing its thing, topping up painkillers and antibiotics, and just generally making sure I was comfortable. The level of care and attention was like nothing I have ever experienced. The day after surgery I was driven to the Recovery Centre, and again subjected to around the clock care. The nurses took care of all the meds, you could literally set a clock by how precisely timed their visits were, and they were all so very nice. While in the recovery centre Dr. Serrano came by at least three times, another surgeon Dr. Martinez made a visit, and on the third day after surgery was a visit to the rehabilitation centre where we went through various exercises to enhance the recovery. The next day I was driven back to the airport in San Diego, and I bid a final farewell to the extraordinary team of BajaMed . The professionals that make up the Baja Medical Group are over the top kind and courteous people. The surgeons and staff are with you every step of the way even including you on a what's app with the entire team leading up to and after the procedure for communication and clarity. After spending a full year trying to conservatively manage my herniated disc in Canada, I continued to struggle with significant numbness, shooting leg pain, leg weakness, and intermittent bladder issues. With no remaining treatment options aside from long-term disability and opioid medications, I began searching for care outside the country. That search is what led us to BajaMed Group, and from the very first interaction, everything changed. BajaMed treated us like family from the moment we reached out. They listened to my concerns, truly heard me, and showed genuine compassion. They offered several minimally invasive treatment options and took the time to answer every question in detail. Never once did we feel rushed or feel that finances were their priority. Their sole focus was helping patients achieve a better quality of life. After careful consideration, we decided to move forward with surgery and travelled to Tijuana. Upon arrival, I underwent updated imaging, including an MRI, EMG, and dynamic X-rays. These revealed more extensive damage than originally expected. The team carefully walked us through the findings, explaining why previous imaging in Canada had not captured the full picture. They offered an updated surgical plan but never pressured us to change course. Ultimately, we chose to proceed with the revised plan. What was expected to be a 1.5-hour surgery turned into a complex 5-hour procedure. Naturally, we worried about the cost associated with such an extensive operation, but the team reassured us repeatedly that the priority was my care and recovery, and that finances would be handled afterward. Their calm reassurance allowed us to focus entirely on healing. The care I received was the best I have ever experienced. The doctors took their time during every round, answered all our questions, and even got to know us personally. We shared stories and photos of pets and family. We could contact them at any hour—day or night—and they always responded within minutes. Every staff member, from transport to administration, treated us with exceptional professionalism, compassion, and kindness. Leaving was surprisingly emotional; they had become like family, and we looked forward to seeing them each day. Since surgery, the improvements in my health have been remarkable: No lower-back pain No shooting pain down my legs Sensation returned in my left toes for the first time in nearly a year No bladder dysfunction A dramatic improvement in my mental health My recovery journey is still ahead of me, but for the first time in almost a year, I feel hopeful and excited about the future. BajaMed Group gave me the chance to heal my body and my spirit—something I can never put a price on. I will forever be grateful for their love, support, dedication, and compassion. Overall an amazing experience.  Extremely professional in all regards and overall a great team of people who strive for ultimate results.  I had been personally referred and  the exceptional service  is second to none.  It's been a life changing experience. I am posting as a companion for a surgical patient. Firstly,  I would like to thank laisha and emi for the countless hours of background work to make our trip safe and organized !  We never worried about being where we needed to be because you arranged it all!!  And the personal aspect that you each provided actually will be part of the journey we will continue to be reminded of whenever we look back at our time in Mexico. To the dr’s and staff at the hospital (even the guy testing with the probes😬)everything was amazing. When we were a little daunted because of the language barrier, there was always someone there to help us navigate. We understood fully what was being presented to us and the options available. Kyle sought care in Canada for the past 17 years and none was given other than a bandaid. But that’s another story. What we want to shine light on is that here at bajamed we were given the facts with solutions. The surgery was successful, and even though Kyle has a journey ahead of him yet, he was given a start!!  We are so grateful for the personal support and thankful for the competence of the staff to perform their positions well. Each aspect of your group ensures that your patients care is at the forefront of their attention. Incredible attention to detail!  We can’t say enough!! 2 years of "Monitoring" in our home country, being led down the WRONG path.  4 DAYS in Tijuana, MRIs, Panel testing, lumbar puncture and we have a clear diagnosis.  The TEAM at Bajamed has reminded us that true medical professionals hear our concerns and not push them aside has been soul lifting.  To finally understand that there is a surgical solution instead of the "Wait and See" approach has our complete trust in Bajamed. My husband had total hip replacement Excellent care. Very good explanation what is going to be done and after what is done. We very much appreciated the follow ups from the surgeon  after the surgery The whole process was very well organized. Everybody was very friendly and helpful . This is my heartfelt endorsement of BahaMed, Dr. Serrano, and the whole team. When Dr. Serrano asked me how i found BajaMed, I said "Google".  He smiled and shook my hand.  You can tell a lot by the grip of a handshake and a smile. I had been waiting for over 2 painful years of no results from the bone and joint clinic in Edmonton Alberta.  When I called to follow up, their response was "Don't call us". I had heard of other folks getting surgery in Mexico so I turned to Google, and BahaMed popped up. Their response was immediate and I provided the medical information requested.  Less than a week later I was having a phone consultation with Dr. Serrano which was over an hour long and much more productive than any interaction I've had with a physician in Canada.  My journey to a better life had begun. Around the middle of May 2025 all paperwork and medical bridges crossed we were ready to go.  BajaMed was ready to book us for the middle of June.  I was flabbergasted.  No months of waiting??  In this case I wasn't ready and instead booked for July 8 surgery. BajaMed runs like a Swiss watch, smooth and efficient.  Dr. Serrano is one of the most friendly down to earth people I have ever met.  He and his whole team are the best I would ever have.  They treat you more like family and loved ones.   So with that I intend to have my other hip surgery there as well. Thank you for giving me my smile and happiness back.
